Warranty
Teskis garden tools carry the legal guarantee of conformity: two years across the EU, three in Spain. What it covers, what it does not, and how to claim.
Every tool we sell carries the legal guarantee that Spanish and EU consumer law gives you. Nothing on this page reduces it. Where a manufacturer adds a commercial guarantee of its own, that sits on top of your legal rights and never in place of them.
This page explains what the guarantee covers, what it does not, how to claim, and what we do once you have claimed. If you would rather skip the reading, email support@teskis.com with your order number, a sentence about what failed and a photograph. We answer Monday to Saturday, 9 to 6 CET.
The legal guarantee of conformity: two years across the EU, three in Spain
Under Directive (EU) 2019/771 and the Spanish Consumer Act (Royal Legislative Decree 1/2007, as amended by Royal Decree-Law 7/2021), we have to deliver goods that conform to the contract. A tool conforms when it matches its description, is fit for the job it is sold for, comes with the parts and instructions you would expect, and has the durability that is normal for its type. When it does not, that is a lack of conformity, and putting it right costs you nothing — parts, labour and postage included.
How long it lasts
Two years from delivery is the EU minimum. Spain gives more: for goods delivered on or after 1 January 2022, the legal guarantee runs for three years from the day the tool reaches you. We are established in Barcelona and sell as a Spanish trader, so three years is the period we apply to every order. If you bought as a consumer elsewhere in the EU and your own national law gives you something more favourable, tell us and we will apply that instead.
Two further timings matter. The guarantee clock is suspended while a tool is with us for repair or replacement, so time spent in our workshop is added back. And the deadline for bringing a claim is five years from the moment the fault first shows itself. There is no two-month notification deadline — that requirement was removed from Spanish law in 2022 — but tell us early anyway, because a fault reported while it is still small is usually the easier one to fix.
Who has to prove what
For the first two years after delivery, a fault is presumed to have existed at delivery unless we can show otherwise. In practice that means you do not have to prove anything about the cause during those two years; the burden sits with us. Between the second and third year the burden shifts, and we may ask for evidence that the failure comes from the tool rather than from use, storage or an accident. This is the point at which good photographs and a clear account of how the tool was used and stored make the difference.
The legal guarantee protects consumers. If you bought as a business, different rules apply under Spanish commercial law, and we handle those claims case by case — email us with the order number and we will tell you where you stand.
Commercial guarantees from manufacturers
Some garden tools carry a commercial guarantee from the maker: a separate promise, sometimes longer than the legal period, sometimes limited to specific parts such as a forged head, a blade or a pump. Where a tool has one, its terms arrive with the tool and are binding on the manufacturer as written.
A commercial guarantee can only add. It cannot shorten the three-year legal period, remove a legal remedy, or require you to go to the manufacturer before you come to us. You claim from us, because we are the seller. If a claim is better resolved by the manufacturer, we open it and follow it through on your behalf — you do not chase them. If you are unsure whether your tool carries a commercial guarantee, send us the order number and we will check.
What the guarantee covers
Manufacturing and material defects, and premature failure under normal domestic garden use. Across the ranges we stock, that includes:
- Blades, heads and tines that crack, chip or bend while cutting within the capacity printed on the tool or given in its specification.
- Welds that break, rivets that work loose, pivot bolts that will not hold an adjustment.
- Handles that split at the ferrule, work loose from the head, or delaminate.
- Secateur and lopper springs that lose tension, ratchets that seize, catches that stop holding.
- Hose fittings that leak at the crimp, reels that jam, spray guns whose trigger seals fail early.
- Irrigation timers and controllers that lose their programme, stop keeping time, or fail to open the valve.
- Powder coating that lifts or blisters without impact, and rust that starts underneath intact paint.
- Steel that will not take or hold an edge because it was heat-treated badly.
- Anything that arrives broken, incomplete, or not the item you ordered.
Normal garden use means the tool doing the job it is sold for, at or below its stated capacity, in a domestic garden or allotment. Pruning green wood within a pruner’s rated diameter is normal use. Cutting seasoned hardwood twice that thickness is not.
What the guarantee does not cover
- Normal wear. Blades dull, edges roll, moving parts develop play. Sharpening and adjustment are maintenance, not faults.
- Corrosion from being left outdoors. Tools left in wet grass, in the rain, or in a damp unheated shed will rust, and carbon steel will rust quickly. Storage rust is not a manufacturing defect.
- Frost damage. Hoses, connectors, sprayers and timers left charged with water over winter split. Drain them before the first frost.
- Misuse and overload. Cutting beyond rated capacity, cutting wire, nails, fencing or stone, levering with loppers or spades, hammering with a tool that is not a hammer, standing on a tool to force a cut.
- Accidental damage. Drops, impacts, mower strikes, loss and theft.
- Modification. Regrinding a blade to a different profile, drilling or shortening handles, fitting non-original parts, or any repair carried out elsewhere before you contact us.
- Neglected maintenance. Not cleaning, drying and oiling a tool as the instructions require.
- Cosmetic marks. Scratches, scuffs, patina on bare steel, faded handle colour.
- Commercial, professional and hire use. Our tools are specified for domestic gardens.
Consumables and wear parts
Some parts are meant to be used up: trimmer and cutting line, blades sold as spares, filter screens and gaskets in hose connectors and sprayers, O-rings, washers, batteries, sharpening media and spray nozzles. These are covered only for a defect that was present when they arrived — a split O-ring straight out of the packet, a filter screen with no holes, a battery dead on first charge — and not for reaching the end of their working life.
If it arrives faulty, damaged or wrong
That is a delivery problem rather than a warranty claim, and it moves faster. Email us with the order number and a photograph and we will replace or refund it, and we pay the return postage. You also have 30 days to return anything for any reason, used or unused, as long as the item can still be inspected — no fault required. Both routes are set out in full on Returns & Refunds.
How to make a warranty claim
Claims are made by email to support@teskis.com. There is no form to fill in. Include as much of the following as you have:
- Your order number, or the email address the order was placed with.
- Which item failed, and when you first noticed it.
- What the tool was doing at the time — what you were cutting or watering, roughly how thick, wet or dry, how long you had been at it.
- How the tool is stored between uses.
- Photographs: one of the whole tool in frame, and one close-up of the failure, in focus and in daylight. If a blade or weld has cracked, photograph the break itself.
- A short video if the fault is intermittent — a mechanism that jams occasionally or a seal that only leaks under pressure.
Photographs and the order number are the two things that settle most claims without any further correspondence, and they matter more after the second year, when the burden of proof has shifted. Please do not send anything back before we ask you to. If the item needs to come in for inspection, we arrange the postage and pay for it.
What happens next
We read the claim and reply during support hours, Monday to Saturday, 9 to 6 CET. Sometimes one extra photograph is enough to settle it. Sometimes we ask for the tool. Then one of four outcomes follows.
You choose between repair and replacement. We can decline the option you choose only if it is impossible or would cost disproportionately more than the alternative, and in that case we provide the other one. You can move to a price reduction or a refund if neither repair nor replacement is possible, if we fail to complete one within a reasonable time or without significant inconvenience to you, if the same fault returns after a repair, or if the fault is serious enough to justify it outright.
| Remedy | When it applies | What it costs you |
|---|---|---|
| Repair | The fault can be put right and the tool returned to full working condition. | Nothing. Parts, labour and postage both ways are ours. |
| Replacement | Repair is not practical, or you prefer a replacement and it is available. | Nothing. Delivery is free on all our orders, and replacements are dispatched as quickly as we can, usually within one to two working days. |
| Price reduction | You want to keep and use the tool despite the fault. | Nothing. We refund part of what you paid and you keep the tool. |
| Refund | Repair and replacement have failed, are impossible, or the fault is serious. | Nothing. Refunded in full to your original payment method, or by bank transfer to an account you give us if you paid cash on delivery. |
Refunds and price reductions are paid without undue delay and within 14 days of the remedy being agreed and the item, where one is being returned, reaching us. If we inspect a tool and conclude the failure is not a lack of conformity, we tell you exactly what we found, send you our inspection photographs, and return the tool to you at our cost. You are free to disagree, and to say so.
Care that keeps a tool inside the guarantee
None of this is a condition of your legal rights, and routine maintenance never voids anything. It simply removes the causes that most often turn out to be the real explanation for a failed tool.
- Rinse soil and sap off after use and dry the steel before it goes away.
- Wipe bare steel with a light oil every few uses, and more often on the coast.
- Store under cover, off the floor, out of wet grass and damp corners.
- Drain hoses, sprayers, connectors and timers before the first frost.
- Sharpen at the angle the manufacturer specifies rather than reshaping the bevel.
- Stay within the stated cutting capacity. Use a saw for what a pruner cannot take.
- Keep the instructions and any manufacturer guarantee card that came in the box.
If you disagree with our decision
Reply and ask for the claim to be reviewed. A second person looks at it, and we put the reasoning in writing.
If we still cannot agree, you can take the matter to alternative dispute resolution. In Spain that is the consumer arbitration system, through your local Junta Arbitral de Consumo or, in Catalonia, the Agència Catalana del Consum. Consumers elsewhere in the EU can use the ADR body for their own country, and the European Consumer Centres Network can point you to it. The European Commission’s Online Dispute Resolution platform stopped operating in July 2025, so there is no longer a single EU-wide portal for this; the national bodies above have taken over that role. You may also bring a claim in the courts of your place of residence.
None of this affects your statutory rights, including the right of withdrawal under Directive 2011/83/EU, which we extend voluntarily from 14 days to 30.
